Independence Day (1996)

Movie Review

Directed by: Roland Emmerich

Starring: Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum

On July 2nd, the aliens arrive and unleash hell on Earth.  On July 3rd, mankind tries to fight back and fails miserably.  On July 4th, mankind fights back again, but they do so intelligently.  They send David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), the man who discovered the aliens’ communication signals, and Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith), the only man to have survived a direct assault by the aliens, on a suicide mission to take down the alien mother ship. Independence Day is the king of all disaster movies.  This is the film that established Will Smith as a true movie star.  The movie takes you on a two and half hour thrill ride full of fast-paced action and spectacular special effects (for the time).  Independence Day definitely gets a sober rating.  It has everything we want in a great blockbuster.
