Shutter Island (2010)

Movie Review

Directed by: Martin Scorsese

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, Mark Ruffalo, and Michelle Williams

U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are tasked with investigating the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital.  This criminally insane patient supposedly disappeared from a locked room.  While Teddy wanted to come to the island for personal reasons, his investigation leads him to question whether the psychiatrists there engage in illicit or unethical practices with their patients.  Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island is an engrossing psychological thriller that ushers the legendary filmmaker into uncharted territories for his career thematically.  Though out of his element, Scorsese delivers a refreshing throwback thriller that will make you question reality and leave you thinking about the movie long after you’re done watching it.
